ba ba ba ba – an unsuccessful but interesting quest for a song.

October 15, 2016

On rare occasions, songs I have not heard in a decade or more will pop into my head. Such a thing happened a few days ago as I was walking my dog. In times past, I easily identified what song came to mind. But not this time.

All I can remember is the song is very perky and cheerful, I’m sure it is sung by a woman. Or at least the chorus is.. a light, feminine voice. I think I heard it while watching a movie (although maybe not.. could have been in a commercial or TV show), and the chorus is something like.. ba ba ba ba ba ba.. or ba pa ba pa ba.. or pa pa pa pa pa .. or..

I actually googled what I just wrote, found some forums, and various songs that sort of fit (although one doesn’t seem to have any “ba ba” sounds in it).

I wish I could say I found the song. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. In the mean time, I will continue my search, or just let it sit on the back burner awhile in my subconscious.

For now though, I’d like to share with you some songs that came up when I did my google searches.. not the songs I’m looking for, but almost all of these are pretty good tunes, some of them I’d never heard, nor had I heard of the artist/band that created the song. One is familiar from the ’90’s, though I’d never known who sang it.

These songs are from a forum called GameFAQ’s, sub-thread “Saints Row.” I guess that’s a game?”

Ok then, here are the ones I’ve found so far:

Never heard of this singer.. her name is Ivy. Song is called “Ba Ba Ba.”

Next one.. I don’t know why this showed up on the forum’s list, there’s no ba ba ba..  but here it is. This is the song I remembered from the ’90’s, but didn’t know who sang it. What genre is it from.. something called new jack soul?  No, that’s probably not it.. You know.. Boys II Men, the guys who sang “No Diggity,” Montell Jordan..

And this guy, whose song I’d heard and kinda liked, but whose name I did not know..

Yeah, if you are of a certain age, you’ve probably heard that one.

This next one is quite different. I’d heard of the group.. Mr. T. Experience (named after the  ’80’s “pity the fool” icon from the ’80’s, I’m guessing). This is a pop punk song.

Doin’ good so far.. I like these songs. Might even download them from emusic or Amazon.. I believe in paying for any downloads that I can pay for. Youtube has tons of music videos of songs or of performances that are not available for download. For those songs, I use the youtube to mp3 site. But, if I can find a song I’m able to pay for, I pay for it.

What’s next? Eh.. I found a metal tune on that thread, but I didn’t like it, so I’m not going to post it here. I like metal, but not that song. It’s called In Cada Venernum.. you can look it up if you want.

Found a rap track in the list as well.. definitely not what I’m looking for.. let’s try another google search..

Heading back into the past for some Motown..

Classic group.. but not the song… hmm..

Nope, not what I’m looking for, but this is great! A Minions version of the Beach Boys classic, “Barbara Anne.”

Up next, obscure new wave.. cool, I like new wave..

Pretty good tune.

Hey.. this next one has a female singer.. could it be?

Uh.. no. And I don’t like it either.. Hmmm..

Ah..here’s a new wave tune I’m quite familiar with..

That one is a classic! Apparently, LOTs of people like new wave music. This one has over 44 million hits!

Here’s a group I’ve never heard of before.. an Americana band called I See Hawks in LA.

A band worthy of checking into further.. I like Americana.

Up next Garbage (yes, there is a band called Garbage.. a good band too). Female singer..

Damn! So close, but not it! Good song though.

I’ve heard of the next band, Yo La Tango. No female singer, but this song is good. Found it on another forum, stephenmalkmus.com (Who is Stephen Malkmus? I’ve seen that name before).. Ok.. just googled him.. from a band called Pavement. Heard one of their songs years ago.. I’ll pass on that band for now. Let’s hear the Yo La Tengo song. (Yo La Tengo means “I have it” according to google translate). What does the band have?

I like it! But, the quest continues..

This one is peppy.. female background vocals..

No! Arrrgh!.. The frustration. But this song is good too!

Ok I’m going out on a limb here..

Tibetan folk music.. well, no.. but it’s good to be exposed to different cultures..

Aright then. Still can’t find it. I’m a bit bummed, but also happy, because I found a lot of interesting music.

I’m going to leave you with a tune that is not the one I was looking for, but which was big in the ’90’s. (Currently over 96 million views!) It might stick in your head all day though, it’s that kind of song.

Thanks for coming along on my journey, even though I did not reach my destination. (At least some of) the joy is in the journey.

Bye for now.

I’m pretty sure I’ve had the same song stuck in my head on and off for about 2 years now and I’m pretty sure It’s a fairly unknown artist. I feel like maybe it was in a movie or tv show as well. Definitely a comedy. The part of the song thats stuck in my head goes something like “and I say ba-ba, ba-ba, ba-ba, ba-ba” followed by unknown lyrics. I remember the song being played after some kind of unsuccessful attempt at something in the movie/show. Very upbeat sounding song. Let me know if you ever figure this one out.

Yep. Probably the same song. Very frustrating. Some mysteries remain unsolved, I suppose. A lesson in acceptance, and not grasping. (I studied Buddhism for awhile – tend to have a Buddhist perspective on things sometimes). I’ve got a ways to go with acceptance and not grasping, but I’m working on it.

I think you’re right about the song being played after an unsuccessful attempt at something – the song has sort of a ‘well, things didn’t work out, but life goes on -lighthearted but a tiny bit bittersweet sort of vibe.

    Thanks for your comment.

I forgot about this thread, but since someone just commented, I got a notification and I figured I’d see if I can solve the mystery once and for all. I figured out what song it was probably a few months ago after seeing it in a commercial (geico if I remember correctly)… You’ll have to let me know if this is the one you had stuck in your head as well. I had the lyrics wrong with the ba ba ba part…. It’s called “The Oogum Boogum song by Brenton Wood. Here’s the link :

In the post, I originally wrote “I’m pretty sure it’s a female vocalist,” or something like that. However, dudes can sing pretty high, so yours is a worthy guess.

I just changed the post to “I’m sure it was a female vocalist.”

Anyway… no.. not the song, but I like it. Thanks!

That’s a creative song.. not the one I was thinking of, but certainly interesting! I’m a little familiar with the “Cowboy Bebop” anime program.

I dont think it’s the song but I had a similar experience… ended up being da da da. Dont think it’s what your looking for because its definitely a Male with female backup for the chorus but it’s worth a shot.

It’s in another language(german I think)… but I definitely remeber hearing in the 90s in NY. About 45 seconds in is the chorus to save you some time.

No. I’ve heard this one as well, but not it. The song or snippet I once heard has a light female voice. Thanks for your comment though.
